My Blu-Ray rips are always taken DIRECTLY from the actual blu-rays, not re-encodings of an earlier h264 torrent, and not "filled in" with web downloads. HEVC is a superb machine, but it should be given quality raw materials.
This is my HEVC 10-Bit 2-pass high-quality 1080p version of the full series 1993 , the second part of the trilogy 1992-1994, a tale of politics, corruption and violence in Italy during those years.
My blu-ray box set was ripped using DVDFab, and the subtitles were converted SRT using SubtitleEdit 3.5.15
I used x265.exe to create a VBR in 2 passes. I initially set the average bandwidth at around 1200kbps, and also set a maximum quantizer to ensure that the encoder could not reduce the quality on the scenes for which it chose to use less bandwidth.
I used the "slow" preset settings to create the video, each episode took several hours to encode each pass.
The audio is AC-3 5.1 at 384 kbps.
The English subtitles are soft coded into the mkv.
