The soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey is so recognizable, yet it's so unique. Opting for classical music, Stanley Kubrick nails it with this epic-sounding, larger than life soundtrack that helps tell the story. The music is a perfect fit to each sequence that calls for slow, subtle images, as well as depicting feelings of loneliness or despair.

This soundtrack also contains some extra numbers that are basically unused. Curiously, the last track (HAL 9000) is simply the dialogue that was used in the disconnecting of HAL. Overall, this soundtrack is essential for the avid 2001 fan, or those who enjoy iconic classical numbers.

He was originally appointed to create the Soundtrack for the film and he had finished composing it,

but suddenly Kubrick decided to discard the whole of it; and then came the 8-track original Soundtrack.
