But all that changes when she sees a unicorn running through the village and the townsfolk trying to catch it. Odette takes pity on the beast, follows her into an enchanted forest and soon finds out that she is the only person who can save the magical kingdom from disaster.
Odette does not want this job, all she wants to do is go home and be normal and safe. She encounters the tormentor of the enchanted forest, Rothbart, who changes her into a swan so she can't have the power to save the kingdom against him. The fairy queen helps Odette by giving her the power to turn into a girl at night, but she has to turn back into a swan in the day time.
Prince Daniel sees her as a swan and almost shoots her down, with some persuasion from Rothbart, but once he sees the swan turn into a beautiful girl he instantly falls in love and vows to help her save the forest.
