Carmel first hit the charts in the early 1980s with Bad Day and went on to produce a string of very accomplished ablums. The band were huge in Europe (far more than in their native England), which says nothing for English taste.
This compilation covers the period from Carmel's stark but brilliant first album, The Drum is Everything through to more polished offerings. As the band became more successful, production values became more lavish - jazz fused with soul, blues, rock and reggae.
Superb combinations of brass, strings, percussion and backing vocals were added to the band's nucleus of vocals, bass and drums to produce the most spellbinding rhythms.
Carmel McCourt's haunting vocals on soulful ballads are unforgettalbe, as is the sheer delight of their more uptempo tracks. Check out their version of Its All in the Game possibly the best cover version I've ever heard.
