Description

COMBAT HAPKIDO
John Pellegrini, in creating Combat Hapkido, has deleted some traditional Hapkido techniques which may be impractical for modern self-defense scenarios. Some of these impractical techniques include but are not limited to acrobatic break falls, jump/spinning kicks, forms, meditation, along with the removal of some weapons such as swords and other weapons which would be impractical and not-typically carried around in today's modern society.

Combat Hapkido's strategy differs from traditional Hapkido because it includes adopting features from styles like Jeet Kune Do, Jujutsu, Western Boxing, and Kuntao Silat[5] to enhance its core curriculum. For instance, some Traditional Hapkido practitioners have complained that Traditional Hapkido doesn't provide an extensive ground self-defense curriculum;[6] Combat Hapkido attempts to address this by researching and incorporating grappling techniques from different styles.[7] Another instance is the incorporation of derived-versions of Jeet Kune Do trapping and entering techniques to enhance transitions into Combat Hapkido's core Joint Locking and Throwing techniques. Combat Hapkido's core techniques rely heavily on the Traditional Hapkido techniques that the ICHF determined to have the most practical applications for their goal of modern self-defense. The core curriculum has been organized into 10 basic levels or ranks and extensive reference materials, including a complete video reference library, are provided to schools and individual students through the ICHF Headquarters in Arizona. All training in Combat Hapkido is reinforced with extensive training seminars, with most months containing multiple seminars located throughout the United States and the World. In addition to the core curriculum, the ICHF researches and develops "modules" that are compatible with the core curriculum and encourages students to explore them. Some examples of these such "modules" are "Stick and Knife Combatives", "Ground Survival", "Combat Throws", "Anatomical Target Striking/Pressure Points", "Trapping", "Cane", "Dan Bong", and "Weapons Disarming". New modules are supported by DVDs, seminars, and local instruction conducted by certified instructors of each course. ICHF students are required to know the core curriculum for promotion and are encouraged to study various optional modules as well. Instructors are encouraged to require and may require their students to learn some of these additional technique modules as well as the Core Curriculum to advance levels.

John Pellegrini
John Pellegrini was born in Florence, Italy in 1948 and began training in martial arts in the late 1950’s training in Judo. Pellegrini being a teen ager interested in a fast paced and exciting experience in the martial arts soon lost interest and soon dropped his Judo Training. In the mid 1960’s Pellegrini found a Kung Fu instructor who had very impressive certification and unique style, who greatly impressed young Pellegrini with his competence in a street confrontation with multiple attackers. Later at age eighteen Pellegrini enlisted in the Italian Army and was assigned to an elite airborne unit which was also attached to the NATO Forces. While training for his intense job he trained in a martial art related to and similar to Jujutsu, which he states changed his life forever. After this initial training he decided to continue training for its many benefits to both his physical and mental health. In 1969 Pellegrini was contacted fresh out of the Italian Army to work for and with intelligence and law enforcement services. While he was living in California he began Shotokan Karate and earned his first black belt. Later he moved to New York and began training in Taekwondo and has remained in the Korean arts ever since. In 1985 Pellegrini opened his first school in Lauderhill, Florida while continuing to work in the cooperate security field. In 1987 he decided to open his second school and was forced to make a tough decision, keep his schools or keep his job. He decided to continue teaching and later teamed up with another Floridian martial arts instructor Mr. Randy Kirby together building a business of four schools and over one thousand students. In the late 1980’s Pellegrini became distraught with the situation that Taekwondo was in around the world and was later interviewed by the Taekwondo Times where he expressed his views and later received many phone calls and much response from the public. This sent a message to Pellegrini that he had to take action his idea was simple enough but it was the implantation that was the problem. His plan was to add a Hapkido program to the Taekwondo programs of his schools to encourage adult participation in both arts; however, Pellegrini just couldn’t find a style of Hapkido that fit his expectations as a no nonsense self-defense martial art. To solve this problem he decided to start his own style and began his long trek into international recognition. In 1992 he founded the International Combat Hapkido Federation as the governing body of his new interpretation of Hapkido and began creating even more pandemonium after his 1994 interview with Taekwondo Times. Pellegrini then began to promote and popularize his martial art system and make it more and more available to the public.

This torrent has all techniques of this style of Hapkido on 4 video tapes. They are a little grainy, but watchable.
