Summary:

Sixties couples Michael and Donna and Paul and Erica become involved with the intense Count Yorga at a Los Angeles séance, the Count having latterly been involved with Erica's just-dead mother. After taking the Count home, Paul and Erica are waylayed, and next day a listless Erica is diagnosed by their doctor as having lost a lot of blood. When she is later found feasting on the family cat the doctor becomes convinced vampirism is at work, and that its focus is Count Yorga and his large isolated house.

Note : Not content to see the Brits keep the vampire game all to themselves, American low budget filmmakers in the 70s decided to come up with their own, homegrown count. Originally conceived as a softcore porno, it was converted to a straight horror film at the urging of lead actor Robert Quarry, though retaining some toned-down sex scenes, and ultimately turned out pretty decent (and was decently popular). The rest of the cast includes Roger Perry, Michael Murphy, Michael Macready, D.J. Anderson, and Judy Lang.

A woman in LA holds a seance to contact her recently dead mother, overseen by a European count, Yorga, who recently moved to the US and had been dating the mother. After driving the count home in their VW van, Erica and Paul get the van stuck in the mud outside his mansion, and decide to stay the night. After having sex, they're attacked by the count, now a vampire, who knocks Paul out and attacks Erica. The next morning, Erica has no memory of the night, and Paul, not having seen the attacker, can't do much. However, after they return to the city, Erica starts behaving strangely, culminating in her eating her pet kitten, and her friends restrain her and call a doctor, who for some reason performs an emergency blood transfusion. In the meantime, at his mansion, Yorga watches his vampire brides have sex, one of them being the supposedly dead mother from the seance. Yorga finally kills Erica and takes her body to his mansion, prompting her friends to moonlight as vampire hunters to rescue her and defeat the nefarious foreigner, which doesn't go quite as expected.

This is a decent enough remaster, with fine color and contrast, decent detail and not too much grain, and the mono track sounds alright. All three commentary tracks are interesting if you're curious about the story of this weird little film.
