Once again I was fortunate enough to attend every night of David Gilmour's 5 night run at Royal Albert Hall in 2016. Over the course of the shows I filmed a few songs each night in order to piece a DVD together. Initially, on a few of the nights, I had seats quite a way back so I planned on recording the parts where the screen is used on those nights. However, I was able to upgrade on each of those nights with the exception of the 28th. On the 28th I kept a look out for an empty seat in a better position and moved to it during the show when it became apparent that it wasn't going to be claimed, hence 2 different view points for the footage from the 28th. Also, on the 29th I was able to upgrade to arena seats, being aware of the dash to the front for "Run Like Hell" I made myself ready as "Sorrow" was finishing and ran to the front luckily bagging the prime spot directly in front of DG!\
Presented here is all of my footage from those 5 nights pieced together to flow as a full concert. I have not incorporated anyone else's footage this time around. On the nights where I had what were originally my closest seats I would stop filming when the band was projected on the screen, sometimes part way through a song (eg "Faces Of Stone", "Money") with a view of recording those parts when I was seated further back so the band would still be as visible as possible throughout. Due to the seating upgrades though, it panned out that some of the footage where the band are on screen is filmed closer than when they aren't, I really didn't know how my luck would fall each night. One of the reasons I had to film this way is because my phone only holds just under an hour of video so I had to use this economically whilst remembering to hold some space back in case of any special guests.\
Regarding the filming, my method is to simply point the phone at the stage and hope for the best, I don't like to watch concerts through my phone so there are no zoom ins or anything fancy. Occasionally the footage may get a bit shaky, I was there for a fun evening and anyone that can keep still through a setlist like that needs to check their pulse! Or should that be P.U.L.S.E.? ;)\
"Us and Them" recorded on the 25th in the "Alternative Footage" section on disc 1 is incomplete and cuts off just after the second sax solo starts which is when I ran out of space on my phone. The song was an unexpected surprise that night so I kept it in case it wouldn't be played again. As there was still over 5 minutes of footage of it I have included it here and tagged on a short piece of audio from my footage of it performed on the 28th to create a smoother segue.\
Finally, the footage from the 29th of "Run Like Hell" and the encore that was filmed right in front of DG had me singing incredibly badly on it, I got a bit caught up in the moment and no one needs to hear that! So, the vocal parts of those songs has been re-dubbed from the "EBR recording" audio source. I did keep in the audio of the instrumental parts of those songs from my videos though as what you hear comes directly from DG's cabs rather than the PA which is something rather special, he likes to be loud on stage! :)\
Enjoy the DVD, when's the next tour? ;)
Cheers,
Stu
