TRAMA:
Davis Mitchell fatica a ritrovare un equilibrio dopo la tragica morte della moglie. Nonostante sia continuamente spronato dal suocero a rimettersi in sesto, Davis non riesce a riprendersi. Quello che nasce come un banale reclamo a una società di distributori automatici si trasforma in una serie di lettere, nelle quali Davis fa delle confessioni personali inquietanti. Le lettere di Davis catturano l’attenzione della responsabile del servizio di assistenza ai clienti, Karen. E così, due perfetti sconosciuti formano un legame molto profondo, che diventa per entrambi un’ancora di salvezza. Con l’aiuto di Karen e del figlio quindicenne, Davis inizia lentamente a ricostruire la sua vita, demolendo quella di un tempo.
STORYLINE:
Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father-in-law, Phil (Chris Cooper), to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis' letters catch the attention of customer service rep, Karen (Naomi Watts), and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.
