The band took a long time crafting this, which was tentatively scheduled to arrive in late 2017. At the beginning of that year, to tide fans over, they released the epic live album Forces of the Northern Night,and than the EP's.
Dimmu Borgir's tenth studio album, Eonian, finally arrived in May 2018. Produced by the band itself and engineered by Jens Bogren, it saw a move toward a more melodic, "pop"-influenced sound, albeit no less heavy or grandiose than before.
