Tony is een ongeschoolde tiener uit Brooklyn. Het hoogtepunt van elke week is zijn bezoek aan de disco, waar hij de koning van de dansvloer is. Tony ontmoet Stephanie daar, en ze besluiten om samen te gaan dansen in een wedstrijd. Ze weet Tony's pogingen om haar te verleiden te weerstaan, aangezien ze grotere plannen heeft: verhuizen naar Manhatten. Langzaam raakt Tony ook gedesillusioneerd met zijn leven, en hij en Stephanie besluiten elkaar te helpen om een nieuwe start te maken.
Storyline
Nineteen-year-old Brooklyn native Tony Manero lives for Saturday nights at the local disco, where he's king of the club, thanks to his stylish moves on the dance floor. But outside of the club, things don't look so rosy. At home, Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family's starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. Nor can he find satisfaction at his dead-end job at a paint store. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie in the disco and starts training with her for the club's dance competition. Stephanie dreams of the world beyond Brooklyn, and her plans to move to the big city just over the bridge soon change Tony's life forever.

Storyline

Zomer 1963. De 17-jarige naïeve Frances 'Baby' Houseman brengt met haar ouders en haar oudere zus Marjorie de vakantie door op het resort van het hotel Catshill. Baby ontmoet daar de verveelde dansleraar van het hotel Johnny Castle. Johnny brengt Baby 'dirty dancing' bij, ze wordt zijn pupil en ze zet haar eerste schreden in de liefde.
Storyline
In the 1960s, Frances "Baby" Houseman, a sweet daddy's girl, goes with her family to a resort in upstate New York's Catskill Mountains. Baby has grown up in privileged surroundings and all expect her to go on to college, join the Peace Corps and save the world before marrying a doctor, just like her father. Unexpectedly, Baby becomes infatuated with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny, a man whose background is vastly different from her own. Baby lies to her father to get money to pay for an illegal abortion for Johnny's dance partner. She then fills in as Johnny's dance partner and it is as he is teaching her the dance routine that they fall in love. It all comes apart when Johnny's friend falls seriously ill after her abortion and Baby gets her father, who saves the girl's life. He then learns what Baby has been up to, who with and worse - that he funded the illegal abortion...
