When in 1989 the debut "When Dream and Day Unite" of Dream Theater was released it was not the first one of its kind but it still counts as one of the pioneer achievements of progressive metal. Spacey instrumental passages, complex compositions that doesn't lose the focus, above average skills of all instrumentalists and trashy metal generated a mixture of Yes, Rush and Metallica that hasn't been heard before. In 1995 the band recorded the 23 minute long Epos A Change of Season and did the "Waking Up the World" world tour. The instrumentalists deliver a perfect show: John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy are as tight as a drum, while John Myung performs the most unlikely bass runs. On keyboard, Derek Sherinian outshines many as concert pianist! And finally, singer and front man James LaBrie is beyond all doubt anyway.
