ALL THE 59 EPISODES! Professor Balthazar as a character first appeared in the animated film "The Inventor" in 1967, made by a great Croatian animator, a candidate for Oscar and British academy award and a winner of numerous awards on many animation festivals, Zlatko Grgić.
After the great success the first film had with the audience, a series of 59 films with Professor Balthazar as a main character were produced. The animated series Professor Balthazar was made in a workshop of the legendary Zagreb school of animated films. Main directors, besides Grgić, were Ante Zaninović and Boris Kolar and later on many others (Zdenko Gašparović, Pavao Štalter, Milan Blažeković). The legendary music “Balt, Balt, Baltazar…” was composed by Tomica Simović and the scenography was drawn by Zlatko Bourek. It is a serial about the inventor Professor Balthazar, whose simplicity in solving problems in Balthazar-town draws attention of millions of viewers across the world. The serial Professor Balthazar, although made originally for children, was widely accepted and is appreciated even more by the adult audience. The reason for this lies in the sophisticated poetic and philosophic stories, and in the messages which are humanistic and universal. Professor Balthazar is a scientist, with good nature, a friend to all living beings, protector, defender of good and a fighter against evil, ecologist, promoter of tolerance, peace and love, witty, creative, modest and obliging. With his kindness and a will to help people make the world pleasant and better, Professor Baltazar is a perfect character for the 21st century. The whole series was restored and digitalized in 2008.

Professor Balthazar
è una serie di cartoni animati realizzata per la televisione da Zlatko Grgic a Zagreb Film studio. I 59 episodi sono stati realizzati tra il 1967 e il 1977, ed andati in onda sulle televisioni di diverse nazioni tra le quali: Australia, Danimarca, Finlandia, Italia, Norvegia, Olanda, Portogallo, Svezia e Stati Uniti.
Il Professor Balthazar è un personaggio che apparve per la prima volta nel film d'animazione "L'Inventore", creato nel 1967 dal grande animatore croato Zlatko Grgić, candidato all'Oscar, al British Academy Award e vincitore di numerosi premi in diversi festival.
Dopo il grande successo di pubblico avuto col primo film, fu prodotta una serie di 59 episodi che aveva il Professor Balthazar come protagonista.
La serie animata venne realizzata in un laboratorio della leggendaria "Scuola di Zagabria". I principali registi, oltre a Zlatko Grgić, furono Ante Zaninovic e Boris Kolar e, successivamente, molti altri (Zdenko Gašparović, Pavao Štalter, Milan Blazeković).
La mitica sigla "Balt, Balt, Balthazar..." fu composta da Tomica Simović e le coloratissime scenografie furono disegnate da Zlatko Bourek.
La serie, ideata per bambini, è stata largamente apprezzata anche da un pubblico adulto grazie alla sofisticata poesia e filosofia delle storie, oltre alle morali umanistiche e universali che esse
veicolano.
Il Professor Balthazar, con la sua singolare capacità di risolvere i problemi, ha catturato l'attenzione di milioni di spettatori in tutto il mondo. Egli non è solo uno scienziato, ma anche un amico sincero sul quale si può sempre contare.
La serie completa è stata interamente restaurata nel 2008 dalla DVDlab di Roma.

Zagreb Film was founded in 1953 with the main profile of an animated film production company. Since then, more than 600 animated films, 14 feature films, about 600 documentaries and 800 commercials as well as 600 educational films were produced in this studio. There is also 30.000 meters of archive material that was shot about the city of Zagreb and another 30 hours of material was shot on a DVCAM. The company operates on two locations; one with ateliers for artists, shooting equipment, small theatre and one with film warehouse, video multiplication room and administration. During all these years, Zagreb Film received around 500 awards on Festivals all over the world. Among them is the Academy Award - Oscar for the best-animated film in 1962. Dusan Vukotic had become the first non-American author to win the Oscar award for «The Ersatz». Wealth of genres and different styles that were growing in Zagreb was the reason for Georges Sadoul, the French film theorist, critic and historian to coin the term «Zagreb school of animation», what became the trademark for top grade and innovative animated films made in Zagreb. Besides artistic films Zagreb film produced films and TV series for children like Inspector Mask, Professor Balthazar, The Little Flying Bears, Maxi Cat. Most of these films were distributed internationally. The biggest global success was with the famous character of Professor Balthazar.
La Zagreb Film nacque nel 1953 come casa di produzione specializzata in film d'animazione. Da allora sono stati prodotti nei suoi studi più di 600 film d'animazione, 14 lungometraggi, circa 600 documentari, 800 spot pubblicitari e oltre 600 film a carattere educativo. Ci sono inoltre 30.000 metri di materiale di archivio sulla città di Zagabria.
Durante tutti questi anni La Zagreb Film ha ricevuto oltre 500 premi in Festival di tutto il mondo, tra i quali anche l’Oscar dell’Academy Award per il miglior film d’animazione nel 1962 a Dušan Vukotić che divenne il primo autore non-Americano a vincere l’Oscar con il suo film “Surrogato”.
La ricchezza di generi e di stili germogliati a Zagabria furono il principale motivo per cui Georges Sadoul, teorico critico e storico cinematografico francese, coniò il termine “Scuola di Zagabria del film di animazione” che divenne il marchio identificativo per i migliori e più innovativi film di animazione.
Accanto a film artistici la Zagreb Film ha prodotto anche film e serie televisive per bambini come “L’ispettore Mask”, “Professor Balthazar”, “I piccoli orsetti volanti” e “Maxi Cat”. Molti di questi film hanno avuto una distribuzione internazionale. Il successo più grande si è avuto con il famoso Professor Balthazar.
