TRAMA:
Cinque studenti di medicina, decisi a svelare i misteri della morte e dell'aldilà mediante un esperimento avventato, vivono in prima persona un'angosciante esperienza di premorte. Flatliners - Linea mortale segue le vicende della visionaria studentessa Courtney Hall (Ellen Page), la cui ambizione sfrenata la spinge a coinvolgere un gruppo di compagni in una ricerca audace e pericolosa, al limite della fantascienza. Riuniti in un laboratorio del seminterrato della facoltà, i ragazzi a turno si stendono sul lettino lasciando che gli altri gli fermino il cuore; anche i più scettici tra loro assistono e riconoscono gli effetti del "risveglio" sulle funzioni cerebrali, oltre alle potenzialità della scoperta scientifica. Ma al ritorno dall'altra dimensione, le giovani promesse della medicina cominciano a essere tormentate da orrende allucinazioni visive e uditive, immagini di un passato sepolto, ricordi sgranati tornati a fuoco. L'esperimento cominciato per verificare l'esistenza dell'aldilà, finisce per aprirne le porte e punire chi ha osato sconfinarvi.
STORYLINE:
Medical students begin to explore the realm of near death experiences, hoping for insights. Each has their heart stopped and is revived. They begin having flashes of walking nightmares from their childhood, reflecting sins they committed or had committed against them. The experiences continue to intensify, and they begin to be physically beaten by their visions as they try and go deeper into the death experience to find a cure.
