Stearic acid, a long-chain fatty acid, has extensive applications in lots of fields, like the rubber industry, cosmetic industry, food industry, biomedical science industry and pharmaceutical industry. In this book, the synthesis, properties and applications of stearic acid are reviewed in the following 4 chapters:

It functions as a dispersing agent for the fillers within rubber compounds; a softener of filled rubber compounds; an activator of sulfur accelerated vulcanization of non-saturated rubbers, or a release mold agent in the production.
Chapter 3, Stearic acid in biomedical science. In this chapter, the wide applications of stearic acid in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields are described. It can be used as a lubricant, solubilizer, emulsifier, defoamer, a matrix of cream and suppository, an enteric coating material and binder agent.
Chapter 4, Lubricant potential of stearic acid and derivatives for the production tablets by direct compression. In this chapter, the applications of stearic acid and its derivatives as lubricants in tablet compression are described. As hydrophobic lubricants, their concentration and blending time on compaction properties are presented.
Chapter 5, Deuterated hydroxystearic acids and their applications. In this chapter, the main applications of deuterated hydroxystearic acids are reviewed. In addition, new results obtained by authors are also presented.
