With this book Giuseppe Peano (a famous Italian mathematician: 1858-1932) wanted to make a contribution to make "pleasant or less boring Arithmetics" for elementary school students.
The book contains many numerical problems: arithmetic games, magic squares, curious operations with numbers, arithmetic puzzles.
Also contains historical references, such as the use of the abacus and the origin of mathematical symbols.
They are then taught techniques for quick mental calculation of the four basic operations.
A chapter is then devoted to problems with dates: days, weeks, months and years. The calendars Greeks, Romans and Christians. The Julian and Gregorian calendar. The lunar calendar.
