Mentre viene trasferito dal manicomio criminale dove è recluso per aver ucciso 16 persone, il maniaco omicida Michael Myers riesce a fuggire e a raggiungere la cittadina di Haddonfield. Il medico che lo ha catturato, il dottor Loomis, sospetta voglia uccidere la nipotina Jamie Lloyd che vive con i genitori adottivi, ed è accudita dalla sorellastra Rachel. Loomis trova Myers in un autogrill, dove ha massacrato tutti e tenta di fermarlo. In città si festeggia Holloween mentre Al, avvertito da Loomis, improvvisa una caccia all'uomo uccidendo per sbaglio un barbone. Nel frattempo Loomis convince lo sceriffo Meeker a cercare Jamie che è scappata con Rachel trovando rifugio nella scuola. Il maniaco riesce ad afferrare la bimba, ma viene stordito e catturato. Mentre sono sul furgone di Al, però, Rachel e gli altri vengono assaliti per l'ultima volta dal killer che viene finalmente ucciso dalla polizia. Tuttavia, prima di morire Myers sfiora la mano di Jamie...
