Be it a Shostakovich symphony, a new opera by fellow native Dutch composer Michel van der Aa, or a work by Pierre Boulez - the chemistry, skill and dynamism with which Otto Tausk leads an ensemble, a symphony orchestra or chamber ensemble is an inspired musical experience. His attention to the details of a score coupled with the energy and enthusiasm with which he conveys this to his musicians is utterly infectious.

In less than two years, Otto Tausk has progressed from Valery Gergiev's assistant to principal conductor of Holland Symfonia, where it is his ambition to raise the orchestra's artistic standards to a higher level by planning a number of demanding symphonic programmes each season, as well as leading the orchestra in the accompaniment of a ballet production for a number of weeks.

Otto Tausk has established an excellent reputation with other Dutch orchestras, including engagements with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, the Residentie Orkest and the Radio Kamer Filharmonie. Abroad he has been received with acclaim as guest conductor with orchestras including the Bremer Philharmoniker, Dortmund Philharmoniker, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Auckland Philharmonic, Adelaide Symphony, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford, de Filharmonie in Antwerpen and musikFabrik für Neue Musik.

His affinity with vocal music is evident in the programmes he conducts, including Verdi's Requiem in Moscow and Rotterdam, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Britten's War Requiem with Ian Bostridge in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. In September 2009 Otto Tausk returned to the Netherlands Opera to conduct Michel van der Aa's opera "After Life", which he had premiered with the Asko-Schoenberg Ensemble during the Holland Festival in 2006. The production will be seen again later this season in Lyon and at the Barbican in London.

Initially trained as a violinist, Otto Tausk has won several important prizes including the Prize of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Bank and an Honours Diploma at the legendary conductors' course in Siena. He was also awarded the special opera prize at the Besançon competition for his interpretation of Mozart's Così fan tutte. He studied with Professor Jonas Aleksa at the Vilnius Conservatory, a period which had great impact on him. He is now himself professor of orchestral conducting at the Utrecht Conservatory.
