What is Conscious Dreaming?
Conscious dreaming — often referred to as "lucid dreaming" — refers to being consciously aware that you are dreaming while the dream itself is taking place.
There are several different levels of conscious dreaming, ranging from simply being aware that you are dreaming to being able to control your own actions in the dream to ultimately being able to control the dream events or dream environment. The Dreamwalk Program will teach you first how to recognize when you are dreaming and how to hold onto that conscious awareness throughout the dream. Then, you'll learn how to control not just your own actions within the dream but also the events or dream environment. As you master these skills, you'll learn how to decide when to take full control of the dream events and when to sit back and allow your subconscious mind to steer the dream while you remain a consciously aware participant.
Learning the art of conscious dreaming can be beneficial in many ways. As we develop our conscious dreaming skills, not only do we become more aware within our dreams, we also become more aware of the subtleties in waking life. We begin to take notice of things of which we previously were not aware, both within ourselves and in our surroundings.
Through conscious dreaming, we can learn how to improve our mental and emotional well-being, how to better understand ourselves and our inner drives, and even how to use our dreams to practice skills for waking life.
Conscious Dreaming for Personal Growth or Entertainment
Dreams provide us with access to previously untapped resources for personal growth and exploration. By becoming more consciously aware of your mind's activities in the dream state, you are creating a more active connection between your conscious and unconscious mind. That connection will aid you in uncovering the underlying source of mental and emotional issues, and can then help you to overcome or integrate those issues in order to create a more positive and beneficial waking life.
Dreams may also be used to rehearse events and prepare for situations in waking life. You can practice social interaction for business purposes by rehearsing a speech or presentation. You can determine your best course of action in a situation by rehearsing various scenarios and outcomes. You can even practice specific skills within your dreams.
Dreams can be used for problem solving and creativity, or to discover the answers to important life questions, such as, "What is my purpose in life?" or "What am I here to accomplish?" By posing questions to ourselves, we can receive insight from our unconscious mind via our dreams.
Conscious dreaming techniques may be used to overcome nightmares or to discover the meaning of recurring dreams. By learning to observe our dream activities and to discover our personal dream symbols and cues, we can uncover new and insightful details about why we dream the things we dream.
Dreams may also be used for physical healing. By envisioning a healthy body within our dreams, we can encourage the body's natural healing process. For some, dreams may also have a spiritual purpose.
Dreams can also offer us an entertaining and relaxing "vacation". By learning how to have conscious dreams, we can learn to create any dream environment or events we choose and can take the starring role in the adventure of our choice.
