Summary:
April 1992. Members of a large family strewn around the former Yugoslavia gather around the death bed of their elderly matriarch. She is not well, but the forecast of a family doctor that her death is a matter of minutes away proves incorrect, so the waiting stretches out for days. Relatives start bickering, playing tricks and arguing over the inheritance to be left by the old woman, especially over her large family house in Sarajevo. Despite her deteriorating health, Grandma happily joins the fray. It appears as if that might be what is keeping her alive. Family feuds and intrigues directed against one of the sisters are more important to the family than the clear, terrifying signs of an approaching cataclysm. Mjesto radnje je jedna vila u brdu nedaleko središta grada u kojoj naslovna „baba“, Marija (legendarna srbijanska glumica Mira Banjac) umire. Nju hvata delirij, bunca, ne prepoznaje sugovornike i pitanje je dana, ako ne i sata, kada će konačno umrijeti. Tako bar kaže Marijin liječnik Ranko (Bajrović) njenim ukućanima kada dođe u posjet. Obitelj razasuta po drugim gradovima, republikama i državama se, dakle, mora okupiti i pripremiti za ono što slijedi. U gradu se zakuhava situacija, do vile dolaze vijesti i glasine o čarkama vojske i teritorijalaca, a ni u kući stanje nije mnogo bolje. Baba, inače loša majka i loša osoba s traumom iz nešto manje recentne prošlosti, za sobom je ostavila petoro djece koja su se uglavnom raspršila po drugim republikama bivše države, tamo zasnovala obitelji i uklopila se u ondašnja društva, a babina smrt i testament u kojem je podijeljeno nasljedstvo savršena su „kost“ oko koje će se oni glodati i kojom će jedni s drugima trgovati, sklapati saveze i napuštati ih.
