Scommettere contro il sistema e guadagnarci. È quello che ha fatto un piccolo gruppo di speculatori visionari che hanno intuito che cosa stava succedendo sul mercato prima dello scoppio della crisi mondiale nel 2008 e ne hanno approfittato, facendo a volte precipitare gli eventi e uscendone vincenti. La Grande Scommessa è la storia della crisi dal loro punto di vista, quello di personaggi fuori dagli schemi, "eroi" dai caratteri difficili, sconosciuti ai più ma fondamentali per capire che cosa è successo veramente. Una coppia di ragazzi partita con 100 mila dollari da un garage; un medico che gioca a investire a tempo perso nelle (pochissime) ore libere e divulga consigli finanziari in un forum; il finanziere arrogante che pensava di saperne una più degli altri... e che scoprirà di aver ragione. In comune, una certa "eccentricità" che li ha portati a non ascoltare il senso comune, che spingeva tutto il resto del mercato a pensare che i rendimenti sui mutui e sui derivati non sarebbero mai finiti...
Betting against the system and make money. That's what I did a small group of visionaries that speculators have guessed what was going on the market before the outbreak of the global crisis in 2008 and took advantage, making sometimes precipitate events and winners emerged. The Big Bet is the story of the crisis from their point of view, that of unconventional characters, "heroes" from the difficult character, unknown to most but fundamental to understand what really happened.
