Summary:

Young Martin watches the quirky, extraordinary events that occur in and around the family home and barn from a distance. Quiet and introverted, it is only the housemaid and occasionally his brother, Didier, who pay him any attention. As for his mother, she has locked herself away in her room, while his grandmother assumes control of the household, which is slowly falling apart. When Didier discovers that his next-door neighbour and lover have decided to get married, all hell breaks loose, and the family disintegrates.

Dans la province française, de nos jours.
Dans la ferme de ses parents, Martin, 11 ans, assiste désemparé à la désintégration de sa famille. Sa mère, fermée au monde qui l'entoure, vit cloîtrée dans sa chambre. Son frère aîné, qu'il vénère, se noie dans l'alcool, et son père, sous l'emprise de la grand-mère, n'est que le spectateur impuissant de la déchéance familiale.
Résistant au désespoir, Martin trouve refuge auprès de son chat Mistigri et de Malika, la bonne marocaine à laquelle il est très attaché. Mais ni leur affection, ni sa volonté de comprendre et d'aider les siens ne parviennent à ralentir la marche inéluctable de ce tragique été.
Martin se prépare à mettre fin à toute cette confusion...
