The film follows a troupe of decidedly demoralized Amsterdam-based actors and artists as they move to Berlin to star in an erotic show and simultaneously attempt to reboot their fading careers and find love in a forsaken quest of a fool's paradise. When the show flops, the group fades away into alcohol abuse and sexual excesses. The Virgin Mary manifests herself to the group and offers them happiness.
