Jacob Obus, vieux musicien charismatique, traîne une réputation de séducteur et de tombeur de femmes. Il se donne en spectacle régulièrement dans un bar et hypnotise son public grâce à des instruments uniques inspirés du corps des femmes. Ces appareils sont imaginés par son ami Arthur et construits par le père de ce dernier, un célèbre cosmologue qui a trouvé le moyen d'échapper à la mort grâce à l'une de ses inventions. Les trois hommes mènent une existence relativement paisible jusqu'à ce qu'ils rencontrent Avril, une jeune photographe imprévisible dont Jacob et Arthur tombent follement amoureux.
