Summary:

In the 4th installment of the Mission Impossible series, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team are racing against time to track down a dangerous terrorist named Hendricks (Nyqvist), who has gained access to Russian nuclear launch codes and is planning a strike on the United States. An attempt to stop him ends in an explosion causing severe destruction to the Kremlin and the IMF to be implicated in the bombing, forcing the President to disavow them. No longer being aided by the government, Ethan and his team chase Hendricks around the globe, although they might still be too late to stop a disaster.

Geheim agent Ethan Hunt en zijn teamleden worden opgeroepen door de president om terecht te staan voor een fatale explosie die is ontstaan in het Kremlin gebouw in Moskou, waar zij bezig waren met een topgeheime missie. Hunt is vastberaden om zijn onschuld te bewijzen en die van zijn team, echter moet hij op de vlucht gaan voor de Amerikaanse en Russische autoriteiten om dat te kunnen doen. Terwijl hij opgejaagd wordt door een ambitieuze agent (Renner) die Hunt zelf heeft opgeleid, moet hij niet alleen zijn onschuld zien te bewijzen, maar ook een nucleaire oorlog zien te voorkomen tussen de twee landen.
