Synopsis:
Chanda (Swara Bhaskar) is a Maid cum housekeeper and is illiterate. She has one daughter, Apeksha or Appu (Riya) and she dreams that her daughter will do well in life. But Appu has no such illusions about herself. As she puts it, being a doctor or an engineer is for the rich. A maids daughter can only be a maid. As a resuly Appu simply does not concentrate on her schoolwork, preferring to be a backbencher.
Then one day, Chanda, with the aid of her employer (Ratna Pathak Shah) hits upon a novel idea. She enrols herself as a student in the same class as her daughter, much to the astonishment and disgust of Appu. From then on we see a slow transformation of Appu, culminating in her not just doing well but dreaming of a future other than one of drudgery..
Comments:
A gentle disarming tale told with simplicity and without pretence. The result is a heartwarming film that is studded with fine performances. Swara Bhaskar excels as Chanda but she is ably supported by Ratna Pathak Shah who plays the employer with a golden heart and Pankaj Tiwary as the bewildered but game School Principal. The 25 kids to well too, but Swara Bhaskar is the star of the show.
The Director helps by keeping things simple and just telling a simple tale. Technically the film is good with some nice photography of the area around the Taj. The Director and the Editor keep the film at a manageable length and do not let it become a maudlin tale..
See this film just for Swara Bhaskar as the bewildered but determined mother. She is absolutely superb..
Uploader's Notes:
A reasonably good DVD which is a little muted in its production colours. But still it was a pleasure to rip it. We have improved the contrast ato a slight extent, done a bit of shadow gaining to bring out detail in dark scenes and additional detail enhancement through selective sharpening.
As this is a HEVC rip, we were able to use the extra compressibility to reduce the size to just 2GB. The quality is visible from both the screenshots which are randomly taken from across the rip and the two-minute sample which is from 01:00:00-01:02:00.
We bring you this rip even as DDR completes 8 years in bringing you the best of Indian Cinema.
Be aware that this rip (and all HEVC rips) will not play on many standalone players. You need a compatible standalone video player. You can of course stream it to the large screen TV using a streaming device. On your PC please be sure to use the latest version of video players (VLC (2.1.5 or higher) or Media Player Classic (Ver 1.7.9) or SMPlayer (14.9.0) will work. Earlier versions may not).
