Summary:

A burned out, abusive, alcoholic writer named Oliviero lives with his wife, Irina, at their estate in Venice, along with his late mother's mysterious black cat, Satan. To pass the time, Oliviero hosts parties for the local hippies, humiliating Irina in front of his guests. When his mistress is murdered, police suspect Oliviero, and things get complicated when his young, beautiful and self-confident niece, Floriana, pays an unexpected visit.

Note : It's time for another Sergio Martino giallo, and this one has perhaps the most giallo title of all time, being a complete, cryptic sentence (it doesn't really make much sense within the context of the movie, and it's in fact a reference to his previous film The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, where the protagonist receives a mysterious note that says this), and the plot of this isn't entirely dissimilar to that film. Anyway, as can be expected from Martino, this is a super-twisty, sex-packed thriller, loosely based on Poe's The Black Cat, of all things. There's a trenchcoat-wearing typical giallo murderer, absolutely all the main female characters are at least implied to be lesbian or bisexual, there's double, triple, and possible quadruple crossing murder and blackmail plots, and it stars pure Italian genre cinema royalty, with Edwige Fenech, Anita Strindberg, and Luigi Pistilli, as well as Ivan Rassimov, although his role is quite small, but important.

Irina lives with her author husband Oliviero in an old mansion he inherited, hostile black cat included, from his beloved mother, who was an actress. He has severe writer's block and is apparently alcoholic, and passes the time inviting the hippies from the local campground to decadent parties where he enjoys fondling the black maid and cruelly humiliating his wife in front of the guests. When a local girl Oliviero has been having an affair with is found murdered, suspicion falls on him, and Irina starts to suspect him as well when the maid is murdered in the house, and he asks for her help to make it look like she suddenly left. Things are complicated further by the arrival of Oliviero's niece Floriana, whose sexually liberated ways seduce both Irina, a local motorcyclist, and Oliviero himself, and then things get completely out of hand.

This is a quite good looking remaster, and while as usual I recommend the original Italian soundtrack, the English dub is not that bad. Shame about the lack of commentary tracks or other extras.
