Russel Kaine, a sixty-year-old rancher living in the boondocks of Pasco County, Florida, had always preferred a solitary life after losing his beloved partner ten years ago. His only companions were his loyal dog, Rusty, and a feisty rooster named Chesty. But when an EMP event in late October disrupts modern society, Russel realizes that he can no longer ignore the needs of others as he watches them struggle to survive.

With his newfound sense of responsibility, Russel sets out to protect the weaker members of his community, forming a tribe that bands together to navigate their new world.
