I Public Enemy, conosciuti anche semplicemente come PE, sono un gruppo hip hop statunitense noto per i temi politici nei loro testi, per la forte critica verso i mass media e per l'attenzione alla comunità afroamericana.
Hanno avuto un impatto culturale e mediatico sugli altri gruppi hip hop come quasi nessun altro artista dell'epoca, facendosi promotori dei cantanti degli anni a seguire e ponendo le basi di generi musicali di prima scelta nell'hip hop degli anni 90, quali l'Hardcore hip hop e il Political Rap. Sono considerati da molti appassionati di musica rap e uno dei gruppi più validi (e senza dubbio più importanti) dell'ambito hip hop.
I Public Enemy hanno avuto un impatto socio-culturale nel mondo artistico tale da arrivare persino a toccare la politica del Governo degli Stati Uniti d'America.
Sono considerati uno dei più grandi gruppi della storia musicale.
