Improved visual quality via AI enhancement, using Topaz Video AI.

Based on the Criterion Collection copy, uploaded by Sartre.
The result is a slight improvement, especially if you have a 4K display. The original copy has a distinctive, very hard grain noise from the original film stock, which I guess was due to its high ASA rating. Hence, when it came to upscaling I had to lean for a strong noise reduction, which indeed does remove a some of the skin close-ups texture, although allows to have a crispier, more defined image overall.
On top of this, once I had the denoised version, I went of a slightly less aggressive film grain, in order to bring it back to its original taste, but without “overdoing” it the original one per se.

This time I won’t upload a subsequent 1080p version, cause I think if that’s what you need, the original Sartre version does a good job, and without a doubt allows you to enjoy the movie, but if you’re looking for a stepped up 4K version, cause your hardware allows so, well, I think this version offers a pretty good compromise.
