Summary:

Nathan Hayes is a religious man trying to hold onto his farm and keep his family in line. A real estate developer is trying to buy most of the farm property in the area, including Mr. Hayes family farm, in the hope that the Tennesse Valley Authority will choose the town for the site of a new dam and recreational area. The night of a terrible storm, an unidentified, glowing object crashes on the Hayes farm and with it comes a horrible curse for the Hayes family and the members of the community.

Note : This is in some ways a fairly run of the mill 80s horror movie, but it has a few interesting features that make it stand out from the crowd. On one hand, it stars a young Wil Wheaton, yes, the internet's own and all trekkies' favorite. More importantly, though, this is a little-known adaptation of Lovecraft's "The Colour Out of Space", and it's actually a pretty decent adaptation, with some caveats. Some of the supporting characters are unnecessarily cartoonish and broad, and the ending's not fantastic, but I think this is well worth the time anyway. It also has some ok body horror (with pretty good FX makeup) and one or two decent scares, and it's weirdly connected to a lot of Italian horror, being partially shot in Rome and produced by Lucio Fulci.

Zack lives with his younger sister, mother, religious fanatic stepfather and bullying stepbrother on a farm in Tennessee, and is straight up not having a good time, although things don't exactly improve when a meteor falls on the property, promptly melts into goo and seeps into the soil. At first, vegetables grow faster and bigger, but they turn out to be rotten inside, and soon weird things start happening to the animals as well, and then the people on the farm. An aw-shucks local real estate agent is trying to buy the farm because of an upcoming dam being built, and the local doctor tries to help, while still trying to cash out on the land deal. It goes badly for most people involved.

This isn't a fantastic remaster, fairly barebones, but the picture quality is above average, and the sound is fine, so it's pretty much what you want, if you're not interested in commentary tracks or anything.
