Vanguard, film diretto da Stanley Tong, segue le vicende di Qin Guoli (Jackson Lou), un contabile cinese che vive in Inghilterra e che viene preso di mira da Maasym, l'uomo a capo di un organizzazione terroristica, che lo ha obbligato a finanziare i suoi progetti. Qin Guoli ha pensato bene di rivolgersi a Scotland Yard, che in una missione militare ha ucciso il leader terrorista. Peccato che i guai per il contabile non sia finiti qui, perché il figlio di Maasym, Omar (Eyad Hourani), è succeduto al padre nell'organizzazione. Il giovane vuole appropriarsi del denaro paterno, ma solo Qin Guoli sa dove si trova.
È per questo che Omar assume alcuni mercenari per rapire l'uomo e sua moglie, ma il contabile viene salvato dal pronto intervento di Zhang Kaixuanv (Ai Lun), Lei Zhenyu (Yang Yang) e Mi Ya (Miya Muqi), tutti agenti della Vanguard, una società segreta di sicurezza. Qin, però, è ancora scosso dall'accaduto e teme che Omar possa fare del male a sua figlia Fareeda (Xu Ruohan), che vive in Africa, e usarla contro di lui. È così che chiede al direttore della Vanguard, Tang Huanting (Jackie Chan), di proteggere sua figlia.
I tre agenti insieme allo stesso Tang si precipitano subito in Africa, dove vivranno un'avventura ricca di azione e colpi di scena.
