This record contains pieces tracing the development of the rumba over the centuries. The Grupo Afrocuba de Matanzas, with its natural timbre, was recorded in situ and joins the Conjunto de Clave y Guaguanco group to offer a sound dose to the origins of this genre. Famous voices, such as those of Carlos Embale and Celeste Mendoza, give an interpretation which sets the tone for new generations. Los Papines, Pello el Afrokan and the Trio Matamoros interpret the most up-to-date forms of street music.
The listener can thus appreciate the world of festive music, in which the sounds of Africa and Europe fuse into an amalgam of feelings and rhythms capable of moving any human being, even beyond the shores of the island, in any part of the world. (From Liner Notes)
