Note : How about some British horror that's not Hammer or Amicus for once? Here's a very good little sci-fi horror story about children who aren't quite children, but creepy little mind-controlling murderers. Starring George Sanders, Barbara Shelley, and Martin Stephens, it's unflashy, character-focused, and very effective.

In the English village of Midwich, all inhabitants suddenly fall unconscious at the same time, and the same thing happens to anyone who enters the village. The military quarantines the village, and carries out experiments confirming that anyone who approaches beyond a certain point loses consciousness, including an unlucky pilot told to fly over the village, as soon as he flies below five thousand feet. After a few hours, everyone regains consciousness, apparently unaffected, but soon after, it's discovered that all the village's women of childbearing age are pregnant, sparking accusations of cheating, however, the pregnancies proceed unnaturally quickly, all the children are born on the exact same day, and all have unusual physical features, and mature faster than usual. When it's discovered the children, who act more like adults with no emotional affect, also have a telepathic bond, a sort of group mind, the government investigates, and discovers the children may be a grave threat.

This is a nice and crisp black and white remaster with good detail and contrast, nice and clean, with reasonable grain, too bad it's 16:9 full frame, but it's not a big problem. Sound is fine too, and the commentary track is pretty interesting, although a bit dry.
