Description

Blood Beat (1974) aka Bloodbeat, directed by Fabrice-Ange Zaphiratos, Vinegar Syndrome remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical mono, director's commentary, and English subtitles.

IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088822/

Video encoded in two-pass 12.0 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. Subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.

Note : A legendary clusterfuck of a production is behind this odd 80s slasher, anecdotes include the title being inspired by the beating of blood in the director's head because he was on drugs the entire time, and the unusual-for-theatrical-release 1.33:1 aspect ratio being a result of the DP thinking they were shooting a TV movie and framing accordingly. In either case, it's a movie about a spectral samurai murdering the shit out of some people in rural Wisconsin, so nothing out of the ordinary here. Cast includes no one you've ever heard of or will ever hear of again, which is good, because it saves me having to make links out of their names.

Sarah goes with her boyfriend Ted to his family's farm in Wisconsin for the holidays. Ted's mother, who's a woo-woo artist hippie type, senses a psychic connection with Sarah, and then the rest of the family takes Sarah hunting in the woods, but this upsets her so much she runs away, and comes across a mysteriously eviscerated man who dies in her arms. Sarah finds a suit of samurai armor in a trunk in her bedroom, but this was apparently a dream, and then Ted's uncle Peter drives to town, crashes, and is killed by a mysterious figure who slashes his throat. Then, the family next door is attacked by a ghost samurai, which makes Sarah levitate in her bed and have a big ol' cum, and that's when the poltergeist activity starts.

This remaster doesn't look great, but the grimy feel fits in with the weird painted on optical effects and the incomprehensible plot to make something really unique. Not good, but unique. The mono track is fine, and the director's commentary... tries to explain some things.

HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk slasher” for more slashing, usually not with literal swords, “hevk ghost” for more spirits of the dead, usually not samurai in Wisconsin, or “hevk 80s” for more from the decade of, well, drugs at least.
